My name is Dr. Patricia Brekke and I am the very proud principal of Back of the Yards College Prep.

So I was the founding principal.

I was a teacher here in the Back of the Yards for about 16 years. I was given the opportunity to be the Principal here in October of 2012, and at that time I was at another school so I was asked to finish off that semester and then come here to start planning.

So I started working with when this building was surrounded in mud and wrapped in plastic and in tarp, in January 2013. And at that time because we were not open, it was only open to the construction workers. And I was trying to connect with the family members here in the neighborhood and so what I did just that whole second semester from January through June through July and then August was meet with family members, moms through the PAC meetings over at Lara, Chavez, Seward, Hamline, Hedges. I was going to LSC meetings to really learn about what they wanted.

So this was a high school that was built just for the kids from this area and so Back of the Yards and the surrounding areas, and so they wanted, I wanted, to get a better idea of what parents wanted of how this school starting to kind of shape its culture. It was a lot of community input, there was a lot of student input to hear about the things that they really needed to make best place a place where they wanted to be.

So I'm still working with her teachers and I am listening to students and they things that they want to see happening here. We've had so much success in graduation rates in on-track rates, in college going rates at our school, and I want to continue to look blow that up.

My name is Michelle Zamora-Dominguez, and I am a sophomore student here at Back of the Yards.

I feel that this school is a great place to be in. I am really happy in the place I am located at right now. I love the people in here, I like the teachers. They're really kind and they do their work correctly. So I am on the girls swimming team. I do something water polo.

I'm the manager of the boys swimming team, I am in the newspaper, K-Pop Club, Anime Club, K-Drama club, Book Club and that's it.

I expect it to stay in the place it is right now, not only stay like a good position but also get a better school.

Do you know about the BOYCP construction site?

Well to start with, I really think that it was a great use of the land where it's located at. Like, from going from nothing in this one place and then going on beautiful big and strong school.

My name is Jonathan Resendiz. My experience being in the school has been very much alike every other athlete. Graduating this year has felt like a long way... basically when you feel when you're in freshman year you don't think of it as much, but then now that you're a senior and you feel pretty exquisite. Other activities that I have participated in besides football, would be water polo, wrestling... that's all.

What is your opinion on the evolution of the site?

Well just coming from a scrap yard and an auto shop, I could see that it is very much a different to what the school was now. Just by everything being changed in this neighborhood. I could see that it could go on.

I am incredibly proud of this school. I'm incredibly proud of our students. I think that we have a fantastic and talented group of teachers, and they raise expectations for our kids every single day, and the best thing is that our students work incredibly hard to reach those aspirations that we have. So I'm really proud of what we started, and I feel like every single year we get better and stronger because the new class is coming in that really pushes our thinkings to do things better for the students here.
