Welcome, Dr. Jesús Antonio Laurel! Image

Welcome, Dr. Jesús Antonio Laurel!

Dr. Jesús Antonio Laurel is excited to return to Back of the Yards College Prep as Assistant Principal, where he previously completed principal residency under the leadership of his resident principal mentor, Dr. Patricia Brekke. Most recently, Dr. Laurel served as Assistant Principal of South Shore International College Prep.

Dr. Laurel began his career in education working as academic advisor and recruitment counselor for the LARES Program at UIC while earning his master’s degree in secondary education. As a high school English teacher, Dr. Laurel taught at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, Community Links High School, and Juarez Community Academy where he served in several leadership roles. He is also a proud graduate of CPS neighborhood schools and grew up in the Little Village community. Dr. Laurel is excited to welcome the students and families of Back of the Yards College Prep back to school and looks forward to an amazing school year!

This year marks our 10th anniversary! Ten amazing years of extraordinary work in the Back of the Yards community - a tribute to the collective hard work and dedication to our community & its surrounding neighborhood’s young people and their families. We have worked hard to create a family-centered learning environment where young people and their families would feel welcome, one that challenged young people to take risks in their learning.

This journey began in the Spring of 2012 when a stellar team of founding teachers was on a mission to build a powerhouse school for young people in the Back of the Yards & its surrounding communities - a place where students and families would be proud to call home.
