Its a great day to be a Bobcat!
I have been a part of the BOYCP staff as both a girls volleyball coach and a Fine Arts teacher since its opening in 2013.  I teach Digital Photo 1 as an all grade levels elective and I teach the IB/CTE Digital Media Career Program that students can apply to for their junior and senior year. Our art curriculum and our CTE curriculum is focused on creating authentic opportunities for our students to investigate their world around them in the visual products they create and the visual cultures they ingest.

IB Digital Media Career Program-
At Back of the Yards College Prep we have a robust lineup of IB Career Programs, CP Broadcast, CP Digital Media, and CP Engineering.  Our Digital Media Program aims to bring the technical and soft skills needed for students interested in future career paths in graphic design, photography, advertising and marketing. Students learn while working as an in-house creative agency for the school.  Our CP Digital Media students photograph our school functions and sporting events, use our lighting studio to take professional portraits for students and stuff, create tshirt and flyer designs for sports teams and clubs, and work with administration to create student made advertisements for school enrollment and open houses.  Over the two years of the program students get certified in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and leave their high school experience with a printed portfolio and a website they create for job applications, scholarships and art school acceptance interviews.
I have been teaching in CPS since 2011 and I have been coaching high school and club volleyball since 2005.  Personally and professionally I have been working in the photography world since high school.  For the last 10 years I have worked for a professional studio and the skills I have acquired there are the cornerstone of our Digital Photography curriculum and our IB/CTE Digital Media curriculum.  The goal is that our classwork is transferrable to real world applications whether that be more likes on instagram or students that want to pursue a career in visual products.
In 2016, I became a member of the 501st Star Wars volunteer charity organization where fans build their own Star Wars costumes and once approved volunteer their time for parades, charity events and visiting kids at hospitals like Lurie's Children's Hospital.
In my free time I love to tackle new challenges and learn new stuff.  Over the years I have spent my free time rebuilding an old car, learning how to 3d print Star Wars helmets, and constantly doing some sort of construction on my old home.
