Welcome, Bobcat Historians!
I am Kelsey Beckman, U.S. History teacher and Social Studies Department Chair! This will be my 6th year
teaching at Back of the Yards, and my 8th year teaching in CPS. Now more than ever it is important to know our history in order to better understand our world, ourselves, and other people. Through studying history, and striving to be informed individuals, we as people can understand our past and how it has influenced the future, and also lead us to build empathy within ourselves and others.

Mrs. Beckman's Bio
I grew up in Des Plaines, IL, in the Northwest Suburbs of the city right next to O'Hare airport. I graduated from Maine West High School in 2009. After high school I went to Illinois State University and graduated in 2013 with my bachelor's degree in History and Social Science Education. I went on to get my masters in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and graduated in 2018. I had my daughter, Kennedy, this past March and am absolutely in love with being a mom! The picture to the right is my family, taken by the lovely Mr. Anderson in August 2020! My husband and I live in Beverly with our daughter and dog, Winston. In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends, cook, go out to eat, read, listen to all types of music, and binge Netflix/Hulu/Prime etc. series. I always am looking for suggestions on what to watch!
