Director of Bands
About Me:
Welcome!
My name is Ajanette Guzman. I was born and raised in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago where I attended James Shields Elementary and Thomas Kelly High School.
I began my musical journey during my time at Thomas Kelly High School (now known as Kelly College Prep). I learned to play the Baritone/ Euphonium during my time there. I grew such a love and passion for music that I knew I wanted to do this for a living. Not just perform but also share this love with others like me.
I went on to attend VanderCook College of Music where I received my Bachelors in Music Education in 2015. Here I learned to play all instruments as well as fix them (another personal favorite skill of mine).
I first started my teaching journey back in the Fall of 2018 at George Washington High School. I had a wonderful time starting up the band from square one. During my time there I was able to take a group to contests as well as bring a love for school concerts and parades within the community.
In the Fall of 2023 I transitioned over to Back of the Yards College Prep where I have been blessed enough to continue my love for performance with these wonderful individuals.
During my free time I love to play video games, watch anime, attend conventions, and cosplay :)
Some of the groups I perform with are:
- Noteworthy Jazz Ensemble (made of current and retired Chicago Public School Teachers)
- Lakeside Pride Marching Band
- UIC Summer Community Band
Classes I teach:
- Beginning Band
- Concert Band
- Marching Band
