We have been appointed by the National Economic Advisory Committee (NEAC) to determine what is the best type of economic system. You are very knowledgeable about the four types of economic systems: traditional, command, market, and mixed. Each member of the team will be researching two different countries with two different types of economic systems. Each member will compile a report documenting life in that country and determining which economic system is better.

In order to successfully complete this project, you must do the following:

1. Complete the “Comparing Economies” handout to research the status of your assigned countries using the Human Development Index by UN

2. Research the two countries economic systems and give an overview of each.

3. Write a report comparing the two countries and determining whether the type of economy affects the standards of living for each country. Things you should consider in your report:
• Which country has a higher standard of living?
• When answering this question, consider life expectancy, child malnutrition, mortality rates, years of schooling, the literacy rate, the survival rate to finishing school and the suicide rate
• Which country has a more robust economy?
• When answering this question, consider the Gross National Income, the Gross Domestic Product, the employment ratio, child labor, the unemployment rate, exports and imports, foreign direct investment, net official development assistance received, and skilled labor force
• Which country is safer?
• When answering this question, consider the homicide rate, the prison population, population using improved drinking water sources, population using improved sanitation facilities
• Which country would you prefer to live in?
• When answering this question, you are welcome to consider other factors outside your research, such as weather in the location or other areas of interest

4. Based on your research, make a recommendation of which economic system you believe is a better choice
• When answering this question, please consider all of the above factors plus any other factors that you think may be pertinent
