Nicole Sangiacomo

Hi Bobcats! My name is Nicole Sangiacomo and I am the Dance teacher and Head Dance Coach at Back of the Yards College Prep. I will be teaching Dance I, Dance II, and IB Dance II this academic year. I am so excited to begin my fifth year as an educator, and I am very thankful that I found BOYCP at the start of my teaching career. Despite the many challenges we may experience this year in a remote setting, I am looking forward to meeting and working with all of my future students!
I graduated from Western Illinois University in 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in Dance. Throughout my years at WIU, I was a member of the Westernettes Danceline, the President of University Dance Theatre, and was the founder of a competitive dance group in 2013, called Euphoria Dance Team, which is still an existing team today!
Dancing has always been a passion and priority in my life. I began dancing at the age of 3, competing at the age of 5, and began teaching in studio settings at 13 years old. I am trained in various styles including Hip-Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, and Pointe. My goal as the Dance teacher at BOYCP is to not only expose my students to different styles of dance, but to also educate them on the history of different genres while providing them a safe space to express themselves kinesthetically. I strive to develop their technical skills as a dancer and encourage them to tell their individual stories through composition and creativity.
Outside of teaching, I am also the head coach of the BOYCP Dance Team. In January, we qualified for the 2020 IHSA State Finals where we traveled to Bloomington Normal to compete at the State level! This was an amazing experience and we hope to represent Back of the Yards at another IHSA event in upcoming seasons. I also am the sponsor of a club here at BOYCP every spring called Orchesis Dance Club. Orchesis gives students a chance to showcase their choreography in our end of the year show, which takes place every June. In my free time, I enjoy bike rides, watching crime/mystery movies and TV shows, reading mystery/crime novels, and spending time with my family and friends. I am a huge Chicago sports fan and look forward to every Bears, Blackhawks and Cubs game!
I am looking forward to this school year and working with you! Please be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my page so that you can receive all of my class updates and announcements! If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out. Go Bobcats!
