Welcome to my teacher page!

Welcome! I am thrilled to be beginning my 6th year at Back of the Yards and 14th year overall! This building feels like home and being able to work with this staff is a joy. Along with working with this amazing staff I have the incredible honor of being a co-moderator for the school newspaper- The Maroon. I feel a tremendous sense of pride to be a part of these learning communities and it is my goal to always lead from my heart and to provide the best learning experience possible for each of my students. I believe that each person is a unique individual and I value all of the characteristics that make you who you are.

As for me, I was raised in northeastern Ohio before I attended Miami University where I double-majored in English and Political Science. I then moved to Chicago to chase my dreams of cooking and I worked as a professional chef for 3 years. Cooking is in my blood and it is a passion of mine! I decided to leave the culinary profession to pursue an career in education and I received an M.A.T. and an M.Ed from National Louis University. While chasing these dreams my amazing wife and I had three wonderful children. They are 8,5, and 1 and such a huge part of my life. I take education very seriously in part because every day I see the impact it has on them.

For fun, I love to work in my garden and dig in the dirt. I have a great deal of respect for the natural world and learn from it every day.  I also love to run and bike all over the city and to experience new things that are foreign to me. I love to learn and to ask questions. I am vividly aware that I don't know more than I do know I am excited to continue to grow. Another way I do that is through the written word- I love to read! Along with books, I love music, and I am a new podcast listener. All of those things allow me to learn and experience stuff outside of my own little world- and that brings me joy.

Anyway- enough about me, if you are in my class I can't wait to learn about you and to help you achieve your goals. I also can't wait to see you in class! Be well!
