Hello Bobcats! My name is Kristi Gabriel, and I am one of the counselors here at Back of the Yards College Prep. Since we may not get to meet face-to-face for a few months, I will give you a little bit of a background about myself! I grew up in Orland Park, Illinois with my parents and two older brothers. After high school, I attended University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Minors in Human Relations, Spanish, and American Sign Language. After I completed my undergraduate education, I attended Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois where I received a Masters Degree in School Counseling with an emphasis on Child and Adolescent Clinical Mental Health. After graduating, I received my Licensed Professional Counselor Degree! I continue to further educate myself with continuing education classes, so that I can be up to date on all of our students' needs. In fact, I am a certified American School Counseling Association Specialist in the topics of College Admissions, Trauma and Crisis Management, and Anxiety and Stress Management. I hope that my education will help me be the best school counselor to all of my students!

This will be my 2nd year at Back of the Yards College Prep, my 3rd year as a school counselor, and my 7th year working in schools. In addition, this will be my 2nd year being an assistant coach for the Bobcat Cheerleading Team. I am so excited to continue this journey at the wonderful BOYCP HS!

Outside of counseling, I live in West Town with my puppy dog, Sawyer! Sawyer is a 7 year old border collie/labrador mix. I love to take him to the dog parks, the dog beach, and on long walks! When I am not playing with Sawyer, you can usually find me reading all the books. I am an avid reader, collect books for my bookshelf, and am in two different book clubs! My favorite genres are mystery and thrillers. I also love having movie nights, as long as they are spooky, scary, suspenseful, or thrilling! Can you tell that I was born in October!? Besides that, I love going out to new restaurants, traveling, watching Chicago sports, and spending time with friends and family (especially my 4 nieces and nephews!).

I hope this helped you get to know a little bit about me. Feel free to reach out to with me any questions, concerns, or just to chat! I am here to help with any academic, post-secondary, or social-emotional needs. I cannot wait to meet you all, and I look forward to a great school year together! Go Bobcats!
