Hello! This will be my 9th year teaching at BOYCP and my 6th year teaching the DP biology curriculum. During the 2022-2023 school year, I will be teaching SL DP Biology 1 & 2 to juniors and seniors. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Spanish for Medical Professions and Medical Anthropology. I obtained my Master of Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2016. I also recently achieved National Board Certification in 2019. 
 
In addition to teaching science at BOYCP, I am always open to supporting students in their passions. In the past, I have sponsored Asian Cultural Club, and I am currently the Boys Varsity Volleyball Coach in the spring. This will be my 12th year coaching volleyball in a school or club setting.

The DP Biology curriculum covers the following topics (not necessarily in this order):
  1. Cell Biology
  2. Metabolism
  3. Genetics
  4. Ecology
  5. Evolution
  6. Physiology
The content from these topics will be weaved into various phenomenon-based units over the course of two years. This means that we will be jumping from topic to topic as we uncover different aspects of how living things work. 
 
The aims of the course are to:
  1. appreciate scientific study and creativity within a global context through stimulating and challenging opportunities
  2. acquire a body of knowledge, methods and techniques that characterize science and technology
  3. apply and use a body of knowledge, methods and techniques that characterize science and technology
  4. develop an ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesize scientific information
  5. develop a critical awareness of the need for, and the value of, effective collaboration and communication during scientific activities
  6. develop experimental and investigative scientific skills including the use of current technologies
  7. develop and apply 21st century communication skills in the study of science
  8. become critically aware, as global citizens, of the ethical implications of using science and technology
  9. develop an appreciation of the possibilities and limitations of science and technology
  10. develop an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and their influence on other areas of knowledge.
Successful completion of this course and accompanying internal and external assessments in the IB program may result in college credit.
