Hey students and parents! Welcome!
I am so excited to work with you and your student in class! Despite the different emotions and opinions you may have about math class, remember that math teaches us more than computations. Math teaches us how to think critically, how to problem solve, and how to prove an idea. Math is important in so many different fields of work, such as engineering, chemistry, computer science, construction, data interpretation, business, economics, medicine... to name a few! Even if you aren't sure about going into one of these fields, know that you still need to be able to think outside of the box, to solve problems, and prove your solution.
About DP Mathematics Applications and Interpretations SL (One Year Accelerated Course):
Juniors in my class (1st period) will take DP Math Applications and Interpretations, typically a two year course, in one year. Our class, DP Mathematics Applications and Interpretations, recognizes the increasing role that mathematics and technology play in a diverse range of fields in a data-rich world. As such, it emphasizes the meaning of mathematics in context by focusing on topics that are often used in applications or in mathematical modeling. To give this understanding a firm base, this course also includes topics that are traditionally part of a pre-university mathematics course such as calculus and statistics. In this course, we will write a research paper, called the Internal Assessment, where students explore a math concept of their choosing. Students will also take a DP assessment at the end of the year covering the topics from this year.
About DP Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL (2nd Year of a Two year course):
Our class, DP Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL, is all about theoretical math. The class keeps analyzing abstract math theories at its foundation. IB Math AA covers topics like advance calculus and integration to train students in the discipline of pure mathematics.In this course, we will write a research paper, called the Internal Assessment, where students explore a math concept of their choosing. About Integrated Math IV / Transitional Math:
Successful completion (C or higher) of this transitional math course guarantees placement into a college credit bearing math class at any Community College in the State of Illinois. (the yearlong course) Note that this class does not provide college credit, but allows students to be placed in a college level course once they enter college at a Community College in Illinois, without taking a placement exam or taking remedial courses.
The Quantitative/Literacy Stats course is tailored to career goals outside of STEM or Technical - focusing on general stats, data analysis, quantitative literacy and problem solving.

About Me: I was born and raised in Chicago, and I am a CPS Alum! I graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Math Education.
In my free time, I love to run, and have run several marathons. My husband and I also like to play ice hockey! You can also catch me reading or gardening!
