Which Immigration Policy Proposal was best? in Google Classroom

Which Immigration Policy Proposal was best?

Read the proposed immigration policies from your classmates below. Respond to this question saying which groups you think is best and WHY. Yes - you can say your own group's was best. HOWEVER - Congress has the final vote on which one wins :)

Group 1: Jonathan, Karen, Rolando, Yrene - Many immigrants believe that the U.S is a country of freedom. With the current immigration policy in place, immigrants receive large delays on receiving their green card. We propose a larger number of organized efficient employees and workers who can aid in green cards, citizenship, and immigrant transfers. As well as help from organizations (with proper information, care and a place to rest if they don’t have a home). Therefore, a solution we propose is to limit immigrants to the U.S by allowing immigrants with a clean record who come to work in the U.S to have a more easier process to enter. Immigrants who want to work in the U.S truly have a beneficial purpose not only for the economy, but for their families as well. Green cards and visas should be put at a lower price or with a further long expiration date.

Group 2: Joey, Eddie, Merani, Ashley - Our team is proposing a policy in which instead of immigrants being stereotyped as people who want to come to America and do bad things, make it so that immigrants have that support. People migrate to the U.S because they aren't happy with the living circumstances in their home land and believe that coming to the U.S would provide a better life. To do this the U.S can provide assistance with finding a job and housing, and to ensure that these programs aren't being taken advantage of to do check ins with the people that have been assisted within this program. We believe this will be useful because people need this support and need to know they have it from the U.S themself.

Group 3: Diego, Shayla, Carlos Villa, Brittany - People 21 and under should have better opportunities and an easier process to get a visa.Because it is already hard enough for adults to get a visa so the future generation should have a better opportunity to get a visa to later on help their families. We choose this specific age group because they are younger and have a brighter future ahead of them.  In the article Immigration Policy:An Overview it says,” Although the vast majority of Americans either immigrated themselves or are descendants of immigrants (some brought here from their homelands against their will), attitudes about immigration today are varied.”At the start of march 2020 when the pandemic started, the Trump administration started deporting all immigrants due to public health order.

Group 4: Yvonne, Damyah, Evelyn, Joselyn - The US should allow unauthorized immigration, speed up the process of getting the proper documents, minimize the penalty, continue DACA, stop separating families, and expand more on who gets work visas. The process for getting the proper documentation takes way too long and some people need to immigrate urgently because their home country isn’t safe or they don’t have the basic needs. DACA should continue to be given to kids that came to the US under the age of 17 because they had no choice since most of them came with their parents.  Along with the kids, the parents should be able to stay to continue taking care of them. Work visas should be given to more high-skilled workers that aren’t just in technology and engineering.

Group 5: George, Carlos Villasenor, Elias, Yazmin -
Immigration is a very sensitive topic and when it comes to detention centers and kids and families being separated its something that can even get emotional for people having to deal with that separation and being detained and just losing years in there with no progress to help them either get sent back to there country or to even get passed to there new country they migrate to
Many see the US as this place for freedom and the right for an opportunity to leave their home country and to come to make money and go back to there home country after accomplishing that
There is no law saying that when people immigrate to the US that they have to be separated at the border so why is this enforced ?
We would like to change the policy that makes immigrants be criminally prosecuted and we should allow them to be held with families in these detention centers until a court date is set with a judge but until that time these families shouldnt be separated
Group 6: Alyssa, Maydelin, Alisha, Hector - The amount of time the process to becoming legal/citizen is long and we made an idea of a new policy to make the waiting process shorter. This will reduce the amount of illegal immigrants that come here because they don’t have the time to go through all the waiting. We could hire more people to look through backgrounds so they can prioritize immigrants more.

Group 7: Ulises, Carolina, Stephanie, Sandra -
Only let in immigrants with a clean criminal record
The President shouldn’t be allowed to decide how many refugees are allowed into the country.
Kids under the age of 18 passing the border alone should be given citizenship easily.
